43. Fight against child abuse in the Kara region through the popularisation of legal texts and the promotion of community actions for the protection of children
Beyond the general rights of the child, such as the right to life, to education, to health, etc., there are specific problems in the Kara region for children in particularly difficult situations: infanticide, child deprived of family environment, child worker, child trafficked, children victims of abuse and sexual exploitation or children called wizards.
To alleviate this state of affairs, the rights of the child must be preserved, protected and defended. For that, they must be known to all. But in Togo, the rights of the child are sometimes violated because they are not known to the vast majority of Togolese. The ratified international conventions and treaties, as well as the laws passed, although published in accordance with legal procedures, are not known to the general public.
The causes of violation of the rights of the child are among others:
> Insufficient dissemination of texts relating to the rights of the child;
> Impunity for rapists of the rights of the child;
> Lack of a system for the protection of children’s rights at Community level;
> Lack of care structures for child victims.
